Mikayla Dierdre Photography

Wedding photographer in Buckinghamshire

I’m Mikayla, a wedding photographer based in Buckinghamshire, photographing weddings across the Home Counties.

My approach is mostly natural. I want your photographs to look like your wedding actually felt, rather than spending the whole day moving you from one pose to the next. I’m there to notice what is already happening, catch the things that pass quickly and make sure you have photographs that still feel like you when you look back at them.

That does not mean I disappear into the background and leave you wondering what to do. If a photograph needs a bit of direction, I’ll give it. At the beginning, when we are getting comfortable, or when there is a big group of family and friends to organise, I’m happy to take control and tell everyone where they need to be. Once everything is working, I would much rather step back and let the moment happen.

Some of my favourite images happen when nobody is thinking about the camera at all.

How the day is photographed

Prepared before you arrive. Out of the way once you have.

A lot of people tell me they feel awkward in front of a camera. That is completely normal. You do not need to arrive knowing how to pose, where to look or what to do with your hands. If you need help, I’ll tell you. If you don’t, I’m not going to interrupt something genuine just to make it look more photographic.

Where possible, I arrive early. That gives me time to photograph the venue before everyone arrives, see what the light is doing and work out where the strongest locations are going to be later. It means that when we do have ten or twenty minutes for couple photographs, we are not spending half of that time wandering around looking for somewhere to use. I already know where I want to take you.

  • Before

I photograph the venue early and work out where the light will be good, so the locations are already chosen when you need them.

  • Direction

Enough guidance to get you comfortable at the start, and a firmer hand with family and friend groups so they take minutes rather than half an hour.

  • The rest

Someone laughing halfway through a photograph. A quick look across the room. Confetti going everywhere. People getting pulled onto the dance floor.

Where and what

Not every wedding needs ten hours of photography

I photograph full wedding days, shorter coverage, registry office and civil ceremonies, elopements and engagement sessions. Photography starts from £80 per hour, with discounted rates available for longer bookings.

That means we can work around the wedding you are actually planning rather than forcing you into a package simply because that is how photographers usually sell their time. If you are having a short ceremony, you might only want a few hours covering arrivals, the ceremony, family photographs and some time together afterwards. If you are planning a larger wedding, we can look at the whole day and work out which parts you genuinely want photographed.

I also use black and white a lot throughout my work. Sometimes colour adds everything to an image. Other times, taking it away puts all of the attention back onto the expression, movement or connection in the photograph.

Selected work

See whole weddings, not just the best frame

The portfolio is a tight edit. The wedding stories show entire days from the morning to the last dance, which is the fairer test of a photographer.

Tell me about the day you are planning

If you already have a date and venue, that is the easiest place to start. Send them over, tell me roughly what you are planning, and we can work out what kind of coverage makes sense.
