The Rye
Wedding and couple photography at The Rye, High Wycombe
The Rye is a lovely option for wedding photos in High Wycombe, especially after a civil ceremony. You have woodland, open paths and water all within a short walk, so you can get a good mix of photos without spending ages moving between locations.

The location
Several different looks within a short walk
I have photographed wedding portraits there, including woodland photographs where the setting becomes a big part of the image rather than simply acting as a background. That variety is what makes the location useful.
Some parts work well for wider photographs where the trees and landscape frame the couple. Other areas suit closer, more relaxed photographs while you are walking or moving between spots.
I like locations where we can change the feel of the photographs without turning the session into a tour of five different places.

After a ceremony
An outdoor option nearby
The Rye works well after a High Wycombe civil ceremony because it gives you an outdoor option nearby. If you are getting married at the High Wycombe register office and want more than photographs immediately outside the ceremony, we can use part of your booked time there afterwards.
I do not need hours at The Rye to make it worthwhile. The important thing is knowing where we are going, what the light is doing and how much time you actually have before the next part of the day. Where possible, I plan around that rather than wandering through the park hoping something works.

How I photograph it
Walking, movement and black and white
My approach to couple photographs is still natural. I will put you somewhere that works, give you enough direction to start and then let the movement and interaction take over. Walking usually works much better for me than asking two people to stand completely still and hold a pose.
Black and white also works particularly well in woodland when the shapes, light and expression are stronger than the colour.
If The Rye is part of a wedding day rather than a separate engagement or couple session, we can build the timing into the overall coverage. Wedding photography starts from £80 per hour, with discounts for longer bookings. For an engagement session, the same location can work because we have enough variety for the photographs to change without needing to drive somewhere else halfway through.
