An engagement session is an hour or two of being photographed somewhere you like, with nothing at stake. It gives you photographs of the two of you before the wedding, and it means the first time you are in front of Mikayla's camera is not your wedding morning.

What happens

A walk, a conversation, and photographs that look like you

Pick somewhere with meaning or good light, or ask Mikayla to suggest one: the Chilterns, the Thames path, a park, the town where you met. She photographs you walking and talking, with a few quiet suggestions about where to stand, and nothing that feels like posing.

The couple photographs shown on this page are from weddings, photographed the same way. An engagement session is simply that part of a wedding day, without the wedding.

Why couples book one

Useful, as well as nice to have

Most people have never been photographed properly. An hour of it before the wedding takes the strangeness out, so on the day you can stop thinking about the camera. The photographs are also handy for invitations, a guest book or simply because you will want some.

Sessions are priced by the hour from £80 per hour and can be booked on their own or alongside wedding coverage.

Common questions

  • How long does an engagement photoshoot take?

    Usually one to two hours. Long enough to relax into it and for the light to change, short enough that it stays enjoyable.

  • Where can we do it?

    Anywhere within easy reach of High Wycombe: the Chilterns, Marlow and the Thames, Oxford, the Hertfordshire and Berkshire countryside, or somewhere that matters to you. Further afield is possible; ask.

  • What should we wear?

    Whatever you feel like yourselves in. Clothes you can walk in matter more than anything else. If you want a steer, Mikayla is happy to give one.

  • How much does an engagement shoot cost?

    From £80 per hour. The photographs are delivered as a digital folder, usually within one to two weeks.
