Full day · Summer
Alea and Maciek, an August wedding
A full summer day: two mornings of getting ready, a garden ceremony, confetti in bright sun, a long veil, and an evening that carried on well after the light went.

Two mornings running at once. Engraved flasks lined up on a rainy windowsill on one side of the house; four champagne flutes with the bridesmaids' names on them catching the sun on the other.

The dress went on with the doors open and the sun coming through the leaded windows. Nobody was asked to hold still. The hands doing the buttons are the picture.

A pause at the window while the light was there. This is what a little direction looks like: a place to stand, and then nothing more.

Then confetti, in full sun, with the veil still attached and doing its own thing.

The group photographs, and the ones that came out best are the ones where somebody was misbehaving.

Some time on their own in the garden. The veil did most of the work.
